Sofia Priftis works interdisciplinary with art, film and architecture. Educated in Spacial design in Konstfack, University of Arts Crafts and Design, architecture in KTH Royal Institute of Technology, and film in Stockholm University of the Arts she has a broad range of tools. Her artworks are often driven by social questions about labour, freedom and the relationship between nature and humankind. These questions, space and landscape are examined in less obvious ways and sometimes developed in absurdum. Priftis’s activist engagement dictates the artistic work, leading to participant processes and the form of collective workshops as a mapping tool as well as an artistic technique. Her works establish a link between the landscape’s reality and that imagined by its conceiver. These works focus on concrete questions that determine our existence.

The Opening
The project The Opening explores the video call. It seeks an understanding of the merged spaces and landscapes opened up by this connection, an urgent and intriguing challenge to the fields of art, design, and architecture. What kind of merged spaces arise, as we connect to each other through the perspective of the lens, and what happens on the flanks of this little cone shaped space represented on our flat screen? Opening this portal may gain us access to a world where borders matter less, and where we can stretch our boundaries practically as well as psychologically. Hence, The Opening is at its core a project about democratization and compassion.
